Week 8: Using Rubric for Evaluation

In this class, we were introduced to the evaluation rubric that can be used to evaluate software of website in the internet. The grading in the rubric can determine whether the tools are good, bad or poor. The rubric can help teachers to evaluate the tools that they are planning to use in the classroom.

Example of rubric

We were asked to find another rubric in the internet and use it to evaluate websites that we think can be used in the classroom as teaching resources. We manage to find the websites and evaluate with our rubric.

When I was doing this task, I realize that there are certain criteria that teachers need to consider before selecting their teaching materials from the internet. Teachers need to consider the criteria such as instructional content, connection with the current curriculum, graphics and multimedia in the websites, layout, technical aspects, adaptability and accessibility, learner engagement and many more. These aspects play and important roles in selecting the materials.

Teachers must be able to select their materials correctly so that they would not drift away from the syllabus. It is good for teachers to have their own evaluation rubric so that they know what is best for their students. Evaluation rubric also will help teachers to be aware of the websites pedagogical and effects they have on the students. Choosing correctly will determine the effectiveness of the lesson and the knowledge that the students will gain.

I hope that I can select the materials correctly. Not just for myself, but also for my students’ sake. They have the right to get the “right” knowledge that is useful to them.
