Week 13: The Final

This is the last week of the lecture, we need to present our final assignment for evaluation from our Professor. We have chosen the Google site as our platform. We have presented it and our Professor like all of our presentation. I am very glad and hope that we will get good grades from it. After the presentation, we were asked to reflect on few questions. The questions are;


1) What is your opinion about the use of the platform in science class?


In my opinion, I agree and support that all the platform that we have presented to be used in science class. These platforms are very interactive, interesting, innovative, original and they can convey knowledge in more modern way. I know that there are also disadvantages to these platforms, but it should not prevent teachers from using them. The advantages are far greater than the disadvantages, teachers just have to be more aware and control the use of the platforms to minimize the disadvantages.


2) How did the before and after the introduction to ADDIE model help in developing the instructional material?


Frankly speaking, I did not even know the existence of the ADDIE Model before. I develop the materials based on my own liking. There are no rules and regulations or steps that I take in creating my materials. Everything is created based on my prior knowledge and there are no phases at all. My materials are the product of the traditional way of thinking.


After the introduction of the ADDIE Model, I have learnted that there are steps in creating my materials. I cannot just create materials according to my liking, I need to refer to ADDIE Model. The system I use to create materials become more systematic and according to phases. I know that I need to have storyboard so that my work will be in arranged manner got quality in it.


I can create my materials easily now. It was all thank to the Professor for introducing the ADDIE Model to me.


3) Would you choose this platform? If yes, how would you use it?


I will definitely choose these platforms. I will make it as one of the teaching and learning materials that I can utilize to the fullest. As an example, if I am using Google site, I will utilize the applications in it. I will use the chat box for Q&A sessions after class or when they are at home. I will post links that can help them in understanding certain topics. I will surely use videos to show concept or theory to my students. Students will be able to learn from home when they are sick and cannot come to school.


These platforms can help in learning science. I hope that I will have the opportunity to use them in my future classroom. I also want to thank Associate Professor Dr Rohaida Mohd Saat for her patience and determination in teaching us, thank you so much and I hope that I will be able to learn from you in the future.

Week 12: Construction Begin

In this class, we were given full three hours to discuss or do anything necessary for our final project. I want to give my gratitude to Prof for giving us the three hours for us to do our work.



We were doing Google site, so we need to find the materials that will be included in it. We have chosen the topic “The Solar System” and the learner will be year 4 students. We need to search for the videos, articles, websites, and anything that can be used in out Google site later. We also need to modify the template and make it more interesting to the students.



This task has given us the opportunity to work together and finish our assignment. The three hours given by our Prof did not gone to waste, we have utilize it to the fullest and manage to complete about 70% of our assignment. Once again, I want to say thank you to our beloved Professor for the three hours.

Week 11:Story Board

In this class, we need to create the storyboard for our final assignment. The storyboard must be base on the ADDIE Model that we have learned in previous class. We have discussed and agree that we will be using Google Site in our final assignment. After choosing the platform, we need to create the storyboard that will help us in the design phase later.

The storyboard is the main “story” in our assignment. Creating this storyboard has given us headache. We have been told by Prof to change our storyboard several times. This is the last product of the storyboard. I hope that this storyboard will help us in designing our teaching platform later.


This task has given me experience that I got from nowhere else; creating storyboard is not an easy task. Each aspect needs to be taken into consideration. Each stage needs to be planned carefully, nothing should be left out. I have taken the attitude to be more precise in my work and do the task more carefully. There is no such thing as shortcut, if I want to do something; I need to do it with all my effort. Quality is what I want in my work.


As future teacher, I want to be as good as I can get. I must do my work with all my effort. Nothing is impossible if I really put my thought and effort to it.

Week 10: A.D.D.I.E model

In this class, we were introduced to the ADDIE Model. This model consists of 5 phases and each phase has its own description. The phases are:

1) Analysis phase

2) Design phase

3) Development phase

4) Implementation

5) Evaluation



Analysis Phase

In this phase, teacher identifies:

- The learning problem (why need to develop?),

- The goals and objectives,

- The audience’s needs,

- Existing knowledge (in science, which to be focused? Is it

scientific knowledge, skills acquisition, scientific attitudes?),

- Any other relevant characteristics (eg. Which ID to use? Eg)

- Learning environment (science lab?, computer lab?, etc.),

- Any constraints (availability of electricity? Designer ? Etc),

- The delivery options (on-line?, off-line?), and

- The timeline for the project.


Design Phase

In this phase, teacher need to:

-Specify the learning objectives.

-Prepare:

· detailed storyboards and prototypes

· graphic design,

· user-interface

· content is determined


Development Phase

In this phase, teacher:

Create the actual product (production) of the content and learning materials based on the Design phase.


Implementation Phase

In this phase, teacher:

- Put the plan into action

- Develop the procedures for training the learner and teachers.

- Deliver the materials to the students.

- Evaluate the effectiveness of the training materials after it is delivered.


Evaluation Phase

In this phase, teacher:

-Evaluate the product.

-Make necessary revisions based on the feedback.


We are required to produce our final assignment based on the ADDIE Model. Each phase must be taken into consideration. We need to include each phase from the model in our final assignment. Learning this model make me realize that it is not easy to create teaching resources. I need to consider many things before I can create the best learning tools for my students.


I need to be aware of this model when I am creating my teaching tools later. All and all, this model will be really helpful for me as a future teacher. The knowledge that I gain will be utilized to the fullest when I become a teacher later.

Week 9: Giving the Speech (Presentation)

In this class, we were asked to present the assignment that has been given to us. The assignment requires to us find a web 2.0 application and use it for teaching and learning process. Our group has chosen Facebook as our assignment title. We need to develop the Facebook page and modify it to suit the learning objectives that we want.

We have gathered the information needed and present it to the class. We choose Facebook because it has many applications such as posting notes, photos, announcement, links, quiz and many more. The applications can be manipulated easily to fit the target learners. We have chosen “The Solar System” as our topic and modify the Facebook page to fit in with the topic.

The First Group: Blog


This group focused on 'Endangered Species'. They have created a vodcast that featuring Chrispin as the Professor. I like their ideas as it makes me think on how I can use blog in my teaching days later. Their presentation has given me input on the potential of blog that can be use in my science class later.

The Crowd



The Second Group: Googlesite


This group has chosen wikis particularly Google Site. This platform is very useful and easy to edit. There are many applications that can be integrated in Google Site. It attracts me in a sense that Google Site is easy to create and fit the target learner. The Google Site is empty, so it is up to the teacher to fill it with the topic that he/she wanted. It will be very colourful because there are many templates that can be use as the design.

The Third Group: Yahoo Messenger (Chatting)

The third group presented on the use of Chatting applications (Yahoo Messenger) as teaching resources. It attracts me in a sense that eventhough this application has it disadvantages, it can be a very powerful learning tools. Students can chat with teacher directly if they have something to ask regarding the previous lesson or topic. It will be very convenient for teacher and students because they do not have to wait until the next day and meet face to face to ask questions. Teacher can just answer students questions through chatting and this will also saves time.

This assignment has taught us how to use web 2.0 applications in out teaching later. I hope that I can integrate the knowledge that I have learned in my future classroom.
